The Barker Chemical Company Site is located on approximately 140 acres lying north of the Withlacoochee River, south of County Road 40, west of U.S. Highway 19 (with a small portion lying east of U.S. Hwy 19) and east of Inglis city limits in Levy County, Florida.  A forty-four acre parcel owned by Florida Power Corporation (FPC) comprises the northwestern portion of the Site and the remainder of the Site is residential.

Current Activities
OSC and START on-scene to conduct contractor oversite and community outreach.  Contaminated soil at 6 properties have been completed to date.  No residents are currently being temporary relocated.  The USCOE has completed assigned reimbursement activities.

ERRS re-mobilized to the Site on 27-APR-05 to conduct clean-up of properties #5 and #6.  Excavation and backfill at both properties were completed on 27-MAY-05.

Excavated soils are stockpiled and treated with enviro-blend before disposal.  Treated soil is analyzed for TCLP metals before disposal.   Off-site disposal for the 6 properties is complete.  5,500 tons of contaminated soil has been shipped off-site to date.

START is on-site assisting with oversite and operation of the x-ray fluorescence for field analysis of soils.  The XRF is being used to assist with extent of excavation determinations.  START is also sampling additional residential yards as requests come in to EPA from homeowners.

Properties are restored upon completion of the clean-up.

Planned Removal Actions
Yard restoration is expected to be completed by 02-MAY-05.
