Site Description
The Barker Chemical Company Site is located on approximately 140 acres lying north of the Withlacoochee River, south of County Road 40, west of U.S. Highway 19 (with a small portion lying east of U.S. Hwy 19) and east of Inglis city limits in Levy County, Florida.

Current Activities
OSC and START on-scene to conduct contractor oversite and community outreach.  Contaminated soil at 7 properties have been completed to date.  No residents are currently being temporary relocated.  The USCOE has completed assigned reimbursement activities.  

ERRS re-mobilized to the Site on 11-SEP-05 to conduct clean-up of property #7.  Excavation and backfill at the property was completed on 02-OCT-05.

Excavated soils are stockpiled and treated with enviro-blend before disposal.  Treated soil is analyzed for TCLP metals before disposal.   Off-site disposal for the 7 properties are complete.  6,543 tons of contaminated soil has been shipped off-site to date.

START is on-site assisting with oversite and operation of the x-ray fluorescence for field analysis of soils.  The XRF is being used to assist with extent of excavation determinations.

Properties are restored upon completion of the clean-up.  OSC Vorreuter and RPM Walden has assisted with contractor oversite.  

START and RPM Walden are conducting a final removal assessment to address the remaining areas.


Planned Removal Actions
The assessment is expected to be completed by 30-OCT-05.  Upon completion of analysis preparations will be made to complete removal operations.

Next Steps
ERRS to continue contaminated soil excavation as properties are identified.

EPA to continue oversite of excavation activities and to meet with concerned homeowners and city officials.

USACOE to continue relocation and reimbursement activities as needed.
