Removal activities for this reporting period include:
The Emergency Response and Removal Services (ERRS) contractor continues site removal activities including: - Treatment of on Site soils utilizing a phosphate and magnesium binder to render the material non-hazardous and unleachable for disposal; - Dismantling and demolition of the last standing silo from the former old foundry building footprint; - Loading and transportation of segregated recyclable metal material off Site; - Segregation of debris from the building demolition into piles of similar materials; - All transformers and capacitors which may contain PCB laden oils were sampled then securely packaged and stored awaiting profiling and disposal; - Additional chemicals previously sampled and segregated by waste stream were appropriately packaged and stored awaiting profiling and disposal.
The Superfund Technical Assessment and Removal Team (START) contractor continued removal activities including: - Technical support; - Implementation of site-specific HASP, - Air and water monitoring to measure migration of contaminants of concern, off Site during the removal process; - Confirmatory screening and sampling of excavation activities; - and site documentation.
The planned removal actions for the next reporting period include:
- Offsite disposal will be secured for all segregated chemicals and demolition debris pending analytical analysis, profiling and transportation; - Transportation of non-hazardous material off site for disposal.
The next steps anticipated during the removal process include: - Excavation in Site grids 01 -10, along the north end of the foundry fence line where soils or sands have migrated beyond the fence line onto the adjacent drainage ditch in a westward direction; - Excavation in residential areas surrounding the Site.
