Site Description
On July 31,2007, EPA Region 4 was notified via NRC Report #844030, of a mercury release at a private residence in Baxterville, Lamar County, Mississippi.  A follow up call to the RP revealed that an unknown amount of mercury was released into the environment by a child.  The child has been taken to a local health unit for medical monitoring. The residence currently contains free mercury and has been evacuated.  Currently, the Mississippi DEQ, Mississippi State Health Department, and Lamar County EMA are involved with this response.  OSC Crowley has been dispatched to the site.


Current Activities
OSC Crowley has been dispatched to the site to coordinate with the Lamar County EMA, Mississippi DEQ, and the Mississippi State Health Department.

Planned Removal Actions
Removal actions will be determined after the initial assessment has been completed.

Next Steps
The site will be assessed to determine the extent of contamination.
