Current Activities
On May 07, 2008 excavation of contaminated soil began at the Site.  Soil is stockpiled, screened to remove larger rocks and then staged for disposal.

Samples collected in late April indicate that the lead contamination extends to the boundaries of an adjacent parcel.  VOC contamination is limited to an area adjacent to the building foundation.  Additional sampling will be undertaken by EPA contractors within the next week to evaluate whether lead contamination extends onto other private properties adjacent to the Site.

Planned Removal Actions
An indoor ambient air sample collection event is scheduled to begin the week of May 19th.  Several nearby residences will have 24-hour air samples collected from the basement to better evaluate the potential for soil vapor intrusion.  EPA New England Regional Laboratory personnel will perform the sample collection.

Next Steps
Continue excavation on the Barrel site.  Determine the impact of lead contamination on nearby properties.
