Pollution Report (POLREP) #1
Site Description
Five abandoned drums were found leaking in a residential neighborhood in Decatur, GA.  The Decatur Fire-HAZMAT righted the drums, aplied absorbent materials to the spilled substances on the driveway, and wrapped the drums under a tarp.  GA EPD contacted EPA to conduct a removal action.

Current Activities
EPA attempted to determine the owner of the property where the abandoned drums are located.  Les Sims (Phone Duty) attempted to contact the alledged owner as provided by the local government.  According to a neighbor the owner also is in possession of the house next door and the one across the street.

START consultant Tetra Tech sampled the five drums for hazard categorization field testing.  All drums were characterized to be organic.  Four were determined to have a combustible component.  None were water soluable.

START resealed the drums and covered them with the tarp; then banded the unit with duct tape.

Planned Removal Actions
ERRS contractor ER will overpack the drums and provide for proper disposal.
