Pollution Report (POLREP) #10
Site Description
Please refer to Polrep 3 for background information.

Current Activities
During the reporting period, activities at 1145 Loflin Hill Road, Lot 6 included completion of placement of backfill and topsoil and final grading.  ERRS replaced septic field lines that were damaged by the wheel loader during excavation.  A private landscaping company, A Cut Above, seeded and fertilized the yard.  To date, 56 trucks of contaminated soil have been loaded out; 67 loads of backfill and 27 loads of topsoil were placed on the property.  This yard has been completed and residents ended temporary relocation on December 17, 2004.
ERRS also replaced crush and run along the road leading to Lot 6 due to damage done by trucks hauling dirt to and from the Site.
Activities at 1234 Loflin Hill Road included hydroseeding along the bank at the front of the property and reseeding at the back of the property due to damage from heavy rains the week of November 21, 2004.

Planned Removal Actions
The Removal Action at the 7* affected residences will involve a combination of excavation and capping with a barrier of clean soil of up to 2 feet and restoration.  Residents will be relocated while activities are conducted at their residence.
*Results of the August 2004 sampling event identified two more properties will arsenic levels above the Removal Action Level of 40 ppm.

Next Steps
Site activities will be shut down until January 4, 2005 due to the holidays.  The next property to be addressed will be 1265 Loflin Hill Road; residents will begin temporary relocation on January 5.
Some areas of the yard at 1241 Loflin Hill Road will have to be readdressed by the landscaping company due to washout from heavy rains.  Lot 6 and 1234 will be evaluated to determine if addition efforts are needed to ensure proper growth of the lawn.

Key Issues
Lot 6, as well as 3 of the 4 remaining properties, is in a trailer park with gravel roads; hauling dirt during rain can easily damage these roads and running trucks on Saturday can be a safety issue for other residents home from school and work.  These issues may cause delays in work.
Rain and cold weather make it hard for the grass on the restored properties to grow; this will be a problem for all properties throughout the removal.
1145 Loflin Hill Road, Lot 6 must be completed by December 17, 2004 so that residents will be back in their home by the week of Christmas.
