Start Date: 10/19/2004
Pollution Report (POLREP) #13
Site Description
Please refer to Polrep 3 for background information.

Current Activities
During the reporting period, activities at 1265 Loflin Hill Road included continuation of excavation and backfill.  To date, 67 trucks of contaminated soil have been sent off site to the Uwharrie Environmental Landfill in Mt. Gilead, NC and 70 loads of backfill have been brought to the property.
ERRS also removed silt fencing located along road in front of the property at 1234 Loflin Hill Road.

Planned Removal Actions
The Removal Action at the 7* affected residences will involve a combination of excavation and capping with a barrier of clean soil of up to 2 feet and restoration.  Residents will be relocated while activities are conducted at their residence.
*Results of the August 2004 sampling event identified two more properties will arsenic levels above the Removal Action Level of 40 ppm.

Next Steps
Activities remaining at 1265 Loflin Hill Road include loading out contaminating soil remaining in and under the stockpile, backfilling the remainder of the yard and landscaping.
Due to weather conditions, some of the most recent areas seeded may have to be re-evaluated.
The three remaining residences are being prioritized to determine the order in which they will be addressed.

Key Issues
During the reporting period, the septic line running from the home to the tank was crushed and a phone line was broken at 1265 Loflin Hill Road.  ERRS is in the process of repairing these lines.
Rain and cold weather make it hard for the grass on the restored properties to grow; this will be a problem for all properties throughout the removal.
