Pollution Report (POLREP) #14
Site Description
Please refer to Polrep 3 for background information.

Current Activities
During the reporting period, activities at 1265 Loflin Hill Road included continuation of excavation and backfill.  To date, 113 trucks of contaminated soil have been sent off site to the Uwharrie Environmental Landfill in Mt. Gilead, NC. Also, 195 loads of clean backfill and 75 loads of topsoil have been brought to the property.

Planned Removal Actions
The Removal Action at the 7* affected residences will involve a combination of excavation and capping with a barrier of clean soil of up to 2 feet and restoration.  Residents will be relocated while activities are conducted at their residence.
*Results of the August 2004 sampling event identified two more properties will arsenic levels above the Removal Action Level of 40 ppm.

Next Steps
Activities remaining at 1265 Loflin Hill Road include backfilling the remainder of the yard, grading, landscaping and restoring the gravel walkway and driveway, as well as other minor tasks.
The next property to be addressed will be 989 Loflin Hill Road Lot 15.
Due to weather conditions, some of the most recent areas seeded may have to be re-evaluated.

Key Issues
Rain and cold weather make it hard for the grass on the restored properties to grow; this will be a problem for all properties throughout the removal.
