Site Description
Please refer to Polrep 3 for background information.

Current Activities
During the reporting period, activities at 989 Loflin Hill Road, Lot 15 included backfill, final grading and landscaping.  To date, 30 loads of backfill and 17 loads of topsoil have been brought to the property.  This yard has been completed.
Activities at 989 Loflin Hill Road, Lot 28 included excavation and load out of 17 trucks of contaminated soil to the Uwharrie Environmental Landfill in Mt. Gilead, NC.  Residences at this property began temporary relocation on February 16, 2005.
ERRS also located utilities, by hand, at 989 Loflin Hill Road, Lot 23.


Planned Removal Actions
The Removal Action at the 7* affected residences will involve a combination of excavation and capping with a barrier of clean soil of up to 2 feet and restoration.  Residents will be relocated while activities are conducted at their residence.
*Results of the August 2004 sampling event identified two more properties with arsenic levels above the Removal Action Level of 40 ppm.


Next Steps
The next steps at 989 Loflin Hill Road, Lot 28 include backfill and landscaping.  
Residents in 989 Loflin Hill Road, Lot 23 will begin temporary relocation February 21; excavation will begin on February 22.
Due to weather conditions, some of the most recent areas seeded may have to be re-evaluated.  


Key Issues
Phone lines at 989 Loflin Hill Road, Lot 23 and Lot 28 were cut during excavation; these lines have been repaired by the phone company.  
Rain and cold weather make it hard for the grass on the restored properties to grow; this will be a problem for all properties throughout the removal.
