The Battlefield Golf Club is located at the approximate intersection of Centerville Turnpike and Whittamore Road in the City of Chesapeake, VA. On July 16, 2008, the City of Chesapeake petitioned EPA Region III by a letter to the Regional Administrator to perform a Preliminary Assessment of the Battlefield Golf Course in Chesapeake, VA. A reported 1.5 million tons of fly ash mixed with a binder was used as fill for the golf course.

Samples collected from three monitoring wells on the golf course indicated elevated levels of metals including arsenic, chromium, and lead.

The City of Chesapeake requested EPA assistance to perform an assessment of the Site. An integrated assessment is being performed by the Federal On-Scene Coordinator and the EPA Site Assessment Manager.
