1.1.2 Site Description
1.1.2.1 Location
In total, the Wells G & H Superfund Site encompasses approximately 330 acres in Woburn, Middlesex County, Massachusetts and includes the aquifer and land area located within the zone of contribution to the City of Woburn’s two municipal drinking water wells known as Wells G & H. The Olympia Property is one of the five primary source areas of contamination within the Wells G&H Superfund Site.
1.1.2.2 Description of Threat
At a former drum disposal area at the Olympia Property Site (Site), TCE-contaminated subsurface soils acted as a continuing source of ground water contamination. See previous polreps for additional background information.

2.1 Operations Section

2.1.1 Enforcement Activities, Identity of Potentially Responsible Parties (PRPs)
The Olympia Nominee Trust (Olympia) has been identified as a potentially responsible party (PRP) as the owner of the site. Olympia is performing the removal action under an Administrative Order on Consent (AOC) issued by EPA.
2.1.2 Response Actions to Date
In order to address TCE contamination in subsurface soils at the Site, Olympia installed and is now operating an in situ permanganate injection treatment system. Injection events are being conducted at the rate of about 6 per year. In addition to the established injection wells and trenches, Olympia is now also utilizing direct push injection technology to better target the delivery of the reagent.
Following the winter shutdown, Olympia has resumed response activities for the 2009 construction season, which will include up to 6 injection events. Olympia conducted focused ground water monitoring and sampling events on March 9, 2009 and April 7-8, 2009. Olympia conducted the first injection event during the week of April 20-24, 2009, injecting 4,000 gallons of permanganate solution both inside the cell and the area between the cell and the river. See previous polreps for prior activities conducted by Olympia.
2.1.3 Progress Metrics
Olympia has injected about 29,260 gallons of sodium permanganate solution (various concentrations) to date. Ongoing ground water monitoring indicates that the permanganate reagent has been delivered throughout much of the treatment cell.

Planned removal activities include continued monitoring to ensure compliance with cleanup standards established in the Record of Decision (ROD). Future injections will be conducted at the rate of about 6 events per year as need to achieve the cleanup standards.

Olympia plans to conduct the second injection event of the year during the week of May 18-22, 2009.
