2.1.2 Response Actions to Date
On November 14, 2011 ERRS began setup of the site for a weekly work schedule Collected tires around the site and placed them into a trailer behind the building for disposal/recycling. Cleaned up wood debris scattered around the building and placed them in a pile behind the building. Collected empty and full containers around the site and placed them inside of the building.
On November 15, 2011 ERRS began prepping and organizing facility for sampling. Contractors collected all aerosols and other small containers for inventory and disposal. Contractors began consolidating empty and full containers within the facility.
On November 16, 2011 ERRS continue organizing facility to prep for decontamination work and sampling. Contractors consolidated empty and full containers within the facility.
On November 17, 2011 ERRS continue organizing facility to prep for decontamination work and sampling. Contractors numbered drums for sampling and inventory. Contractors also began sweeping areas of the facility to prep for pressure washing.
On November 18, 2011 ERRS secured site for demobilization and demobilized equipment and personnel from the site.
On November 22, 2011 ERRS mobilized to the site to have the security fence installed in the entrance of the facility.
On December 5, 2011 ERRS and START mobilized to the site and begin setting up for the weekly activities. Work zones were set-up within the building (CRZ, Hot Zone, and Support Zone). Rental heaters were delivered and installed by electricians (M&I Electric). Water meter was installed within the building and turned on. One 30 yard roll-off was delivered for disposal of non-hazardous waste and trash. ER began cutting up tires for disposal.
On December 6, 2011 ERRS continues cutting up tires for disposal, and finish setting up the site for the weekly activities. The contractors begin sampling containers in the facility and the chemist begins hazard characterization of waste streams.
On December 7, 2011 ERRS finished loading the office trailer and running the water line. The crew continued cutting tires behind the facility for waste disposal. ERRS crew continued sampling the containers in the facility while the chemist conducted hazard characterization of waste streams.
On December 8, 2011 ERRS continued sampling and hazard characterization inside the facility. Tire cutting continued behind the facility for waste disposal. The crew also began cutting empty containers within the facility for disposal and loading the trash pile behind the facility into roll-offs. A portable septic tank was installed for the office trailer and a hand wash station was delivered.
On December 9, 2011 there were two hazardous and one non-hazardous roll-offs delivered for disposal. The crew also completes cutting up empty containers for disposal and continues cutting tires.
On December 10, 2011 ERRS crew begins loading items into the hazardous and non-hazardous roll-offs. The crew completed cutting the tires at the facility and began cutting and disposing of debris within the facility.
Air Monitoring
START conducts daily air monitoring using the MultiRae, VRAE with cyanide monitor and the pDR. There have been no exceedances above background level in the facility.
