2.1.2 Response Actions to Date
On February 6, 2012, Trihydro discharged 25,523 gal of GAC system-treated northeast area stormwater to Oil Creek.
- Midwest was not on site and per Trihydro, they will not be on site this week.
- EQ’s sludge pump was repaired and apparently the issue had been wood debris from Tank 51 lodged in the pump.
- EQ continued pumping Tank 51 liquid contents into solidification boxes and mixing with paper pulp solidification media.
- Asphalt Materials, Inc. (AMI) made progress constructing the permanent berm and judging from precipitation over the weekend, AMI’s current progress on the permanent berm/drainage appeared effective.
On February 7, 2012, Trihydro discharged 28,323 gal of GAC system-treated northeast area stormwater to Oil Creek.
- EQ continued pumping Tank 51 liquid contents into solidification boxes and mixing with paper pulp solidification media.
- EQ hauled off (5) 20 cyd roll-off boxes of solidified sludge to Southside Landfill in Indianapolis, IN.
- EQ received (3) 50,000 pound loads of wood pulp solidification media from Appleton Papers, Inc. in Dayton, OH.
On February 8, 2012, Trihydro discharged 32,850 gal of GAC system-treated northeast area stormwater to Oil Creek.
- EQ continued pumping Tank 51 liquid contents into solidification boxes and mixing with paper pulp solidification media.
- EQ hauled off (3) 20 cyd roll-off boxes of solidified sludge to Southside Landfill in Indianapolis, IN.
- EQ received (3) 50,000 pound loads of wood pulp solidification media from Appleton Papers, Inc. in Dayton, OH.
- Trihydro drained some of the contents of oily water stored in Tank 7 into the northeast area stormwater system for treatment by the GAC system – as opposed to changing the piping configuration and pumping from the tank directly.
- Trihydro submitted the 5th Project Progress Report.
On February 9, 2012, Trihydro discharged 27,700 gal of GAC system-treated northeast area stormwater to Oil Creek.
- Trihydro drained the remainder of the oily water stored in Tank 7 into the northeast area stormwater system for treatment by the GAC system and discharge to Oil Creek.
On February 10, 2012, Trihydro discharged 15,730 gal of GAC system-treated northeast area stormwater to Oil Creek.
- Per Trihydro, Midwest may be back on site by February 15, 2012 to begin backfilling activities in the east and west million-gallon bunker tanks.
- Per Trihydro, EQ estimates an average of approximately 2’ of sludge remaining in Tank 51 and anticipates removing the remainder of material by the middle of next week.
- The PRP Group submitted two deliverables to EPA: (1) Bunker Tank Closure Procedure Options and (2) Updated Quality Management Plan for ESI.
The wood pulp and sawdust solidification materials are reclaimed/recycled products. As of February 10, 2012, approximately *14,850,000 pounds of wood pulp solidification media, 1,800 tons of sawdust solidification media have been used to solidify sludge. Additionally, 880 tons of lime solidification media and 45 tons of TerraBond solidification media had been used to solidify waste sludge.
