1.1.2 Site Description

A truck rollover on interstate I-85 near exit 111. The interstate travels through a commercial and residential area of High Point, North Carolina.  

1.1.2.1 Location

The accident was located on the north bound lane of interstate 85, south of exit 111 in High Point, NC. 

1.1.2.2 Description of Threat

The truck was carrying 22,000 pounds of UN3139 an oxidizing liquid, 90 pounds of electronic detonators UN0225, and 80 pounds of 1.1 d-boosters UN0042.

1.1.3 Preliminary Removal Assessment/Removal Site Inspection Results

The only material spilled during the accident was diesel fuel from the fuel tank of the truck. The blasting caps and boosters were separated from oxidizer. The compartment with the oxidizing liquid was placed on a flat-bed trailer to be transported to a secure location.

The state of North Carolina and the North Carolina EMA Area coordinator stayed on scene to oversee the fuel spill clean-up efforts.
