2.1.1 Narrative

See previous Pollution Reports for the Site.

2.1.2 Response Actions to Date

See previous Pollution Reports for the Site.

With assistance from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, EPA has relocated two tenants located at the site. One tenant has been relocated from space within building #19 to an off site location. Another tenant has been relocated from building #4 to alternate office space at the site while EPA attempts to mitigate vapor intrusion issues within building #4 and an adjacent office in building #1. This tenant will be returned to building #4 when EPA mitigation activities are completed and indoor air levels for TCE and PCE no longer present a threat.

EPA continues to sample indoor air, sub slab soil gas and groundwater. Based on this data, EPA is currently assessing the need to install soil vapor extraction units at buildings #6 and 19 after mitigation activities within buildings #1 and 4 are completed.

  2.2 Planning Section

2.2.1 Anticipated Activities

EPA will continue to conduct mitigation activities within buildings #1 and 4 at the site to mitigate vapor intrusion issues which are presenting a threat to the tenants. EPA will also assess and install additional soil vapor extraction units at buildings #6 and 19, as necessary, based on the results of indoor air and sub slab soil gas data.

2.2.1.1 Planned Response Activities

EPA is continuing to conduct the following activities to address vapor intrusion pathways within buildings #1 and 4: Adjusting and reinstalling the soil vapor extraction unit; sealing of the floors and other vapor intrusion pathways; installation of HVAC units to allow a proper air exchange; sampling of indoor air to monitor TCE and PCE levels during the course of the removal action;

Other actions planned at the site: Continue sampling of sub slab soil gas, indoor air and groundwater; Assess, design and install soil vapor extraction units at buildings #6 and 19.

2.2.1.2 Next Steps

EPA will complete mitigation and relocation activities within buildings #1 and 4 by the end of February 2013. The tenant which was relocated to alternate office space at the site will be moved back to their original space within building #4 after these activities are completed.

Assessment and design options for soil vapor extraction units at buildings #6 and 19 are currently being conducted. Determination of the most appropriate options and implementation of the selected design will be implemented during Spring 2013.

The EPA OSC will continue to work with CIC and ATSDR to provide information to the public regarding the status of the removal activities and any potential threats from contamination at the site.

2.2.2 Issues

See previous Pollution Reports for the Site.

Relocation activities are completed for the off site tenant. It is anticipated that the tenant in building #4 which was relocated to alternate office space on site will be returned to their original space in February 2013.
