2.1.1 Current Activities
- START personnel and subcontract personnel mobilized back to the site on March 7, 2016 to conduct a topographic survey of the site. The survey will assist with determining final grade of restoration and with design of storm water management.
- ERRS mobilized back to site on March 8 to begin load-out of PCB contaminated soil for disposal. PCB contaminated soil is being transported by truck and rail to Heritage Environmental Services in Roachdale, Indiana for disposal as PCB Remediation Waste.
- During this reporting period a total of approximately 2,684 tons (122 intermodal containers) of PCB Remediation Waste was transported off site for disposal from CLI's property.
- During this reporting period a total of approximately 1,662 tons (76 intermodal containers) of PCB Remediation Waste was transported off site for disposal from Walp Trucking's property.
- On March 22, a total of 58 55-gallon drums containing PCB capacitors and other electrical equipment were transported off site for incineration at Veolia Environmental Services in Port Arthur, Texas
- START collected 9 subsurface samples from CLI's property to better delineate contamination in the subsurface. PCB concentrations ranged from 0.6 to 260 ppm PCBs in the samples.
- START conducted daily particulate monitoring. No action levels were exceeded.
- ERRS installed silt fence along the edge of site drainage features.
- On March 21, representatives from PADEP's Clean Water Program and the Luzerne County Conservation District met the OSC on site to discuss plans/options for storm water management and erosion control.
- On March 23, ERRS excavated PCB contaminated soil and backfilled the excavation with clean fill in the southwest corner of CLI's property.
