1.1.1 Incident Category

Removal Assessment and Emergency Response

1.1.2 Site Description
Residential neighborhood adjacent to a church. 5 drums and a pail along with a rake and head lamp were left in the middle of the road.

1.1.2.1 Location
Aqueduct Drive a few hundred feet north of 99 St. E, in Tacoma, Washington.

1.1.2.2 Description of Threat
Contents of 55 gallon drums unknown and some appeared to be leaking.

1.1.3 Preliminary Removal Assessment/Removal Site Inspection Results

Two START in level B tested the head space of the drums for VOCs and other air contaminants. Only VOCs were detected and at low levels. They collected samples from the two drums with liquid in them and use field hazard categorization tests on each phase of the two samples. Results were negative for all tests. They concluded the contents were probably oily water. A third drum appeared to contain plywood. The remaining two drums had a minimal amount of the same liquid in the bottom but the lids could not be removed to reach the liquid level. The bucket was empty.
