2. Current Activities

2.1 Operations Section

2.1.1 Narrative
Contractors finalized preparations for contaminated sediment and bank soil excavation in BRSA 1, which will begin this week. Excavation in Cell 1 of BRSA 1 will primarily involve bank soils.
2.1.2 Response Actions to Date
The following activities took place during the reporting period:
- Complete construction & testing of WWTP in the BRSA 1 forward staging area;
- Start-up of particulate (dust) monitoring system in BRSA 1;
- Installation and start-up of turbidity monitoring in Kalamazoo River around BRSA 1 excavation area (1 upstream monitor and 2 downstream monitors);
- Completion of the BRSA 1 staging area, including the contaminated sediments staging area, support areas, and riverbank access roads;
- Installation of water management infrastructure (sediment curtain, coffer dam, HDPE pipe) to support excavation activities in BRSA 1;
- Completion of mussel survey/relocation; and
- Continuation of bathymetric/hydrographic/overbank surveying activities.

- Solidification/staging/transport of contaminated sediments & bank soils for disposal at approved landfill facilities;
- Reconstruction/restoration of excavated areas in BRSA 1;
- Operation of dust & turbidity monitoring systems in BRSA 1; and
- Completion of bathymetric/hydrographic/overbank surveying activities.
