1.1.1 Incident Category

 At 0500 hrs EST, Category 2 Hurricane Irene was located 420 miles S-SW of Cape Hatteras, NC and moving north at 14 mph. The maximum sustained winds are 110 mph and the minimum central pressure is 942 mb. Irene will pass near or over the NC coast Saturday. Irene is expected to be a Category 2-3 as it reaches the NC Coast.

As of 0500 hours, Hurricane Irene was situated 420 miles South to Southwest of Cape Hatteras, NC.

1.1.2.2 Description of Threat

Hurricane Warning:
Little River Inlet, NC to SandyHook, NJ

Hurricane Watch:
Sandy Hook, NJ to the Merrimack River

Storm Surge:
Surge will raise water levels 3 to 6 feet above ground level along the Jersey Shore

 

Rainfall

Total rainfall accumulations of 6 to10 inches with isolated amounts of 15 for New Jersey & New York through Monday morning.

NEW YORK STATE:
- Governor declared a State of Emergency on August 25
- Request made for Pre-Disaster Emergency Declaration
- NY EOC has been partially activated
- NYC OEM fully activated at 0800 hours
- NYC Mayor calling for evacuation of parts of NYC (specifically the Rockaways)

NEW JERSEY:
- Governor declared a State of Emergency on August 25
- NJ EOC will be activated today on August 26
- Coastal portions of New Jersey are being evacuated

PUERTO RICO:
- State of Emergency Declared; received an Emergency Declaration on August 22
- PR EOC at full activation
- 12 shelters open with approx. 549 occupants
- 73,000 customers w/o power; restoration date is not known
- 36,250 customers are without water
- 7 medical facilities operating on emergency generator power

US VIRGIN ISLANDS:
- Isolated power outages
- Water shortages continue to effect St. Thomas

- coordinated with OSCs to demobilize their removal sites
- coordinate with other EPA regions for backup personnel/resources, EPA-ERT, USCG-Atlantic Strike Team (AST) and removal cleanup (ERRS) and support (RST) contractors

- Mobilize to the EOCs and the FEMA RRCC on Saturday, August 27, 2011.

Once on the site, you can navigate to the documents that will be stored there.
