IRENE BATTERING EASTERN NORTH CAROLINA…TROPICAL STORM CONDITIONS SPREADING NORTHWARD ALONG THE DELMARVA COAST…
At 11am EDT, Hurricane Irene is located 50 miles west of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina and moving to the north-northeast at 15 mph. The maximum sustained winds are 85 mph and the minimum central pressure is 952 mb.
1.1.2.2 Description of Threat
On the forecast track the center of Irene will move across northeastern North Carolina this afternoon. The hurricane is forecast to move near or over the mid-Atlantic Coast tonight and move over southern New England Sunday. Irene is a Category 1 Hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Scale. Slight weakening is forecast as Irene crosses eastern North Carolina but Irene is forecast to remain near hurricane strength as it moves near or over the mid-Atlantic states and approaches New England.

NEW YORK –
Mandatory evacuations currently underway in NYC Zone A and the Rockaway Peninsula.
Tolls on Marine Parkway and Cross Bay Bridges waived until further notice.
MTA planning system-wide shutdown at noon tomorrow, 27 August. Last eastbound train from Penn Station departs 11:45 a.m. Last westbound train departs Long Beach at 12:26 pm.
Possible bridge closures if wind conditions exceed 60 mph.
NEW JERSEY –
Evacuations currently underway in coastal counties.
Beginning at 6 p.m. this evening, 26 August, contraflow will be in effect to expedite evacuation from Long Beach Island in Ocean County.
Both PATH and NJ transit rail suspend service at noon Saturday, August 27.
NJ transit bus and light rail suspend service at 6 p.m. Saturday, August 27.

- coordinated with OSCs to demobilize their removal sites
- coordinate with other EPA regions for backup personnel/resources, EPA-ERT, USCG-Atlantic Strike Team (AST) and removal cleanup (ERRS) and support (RST) contractors
- Generate sitreps
- OSCs have been mobilized to the EOCs and the FEMA RRCC as of 1200 hours on Saturday, August 27, 2011.
