This website was created to document EPA's Emergency Support Function 10 (ESF-10) activities in response to flooding experienced resulting from a
slow-moving frontal system which crossed the Commonwealth of Kentucky on May 2, 2010. Storms crossed the Commonwealth in a wide northeasterly swath from Logan to Greenup Counties. The storm dropped as much as 10 inches of rain in certain areas, and Governor Steve Beshear has submitted a request for a
Presidential Disaster Declaration.
Initial reports provided by Kentucky Department of Environmental Protection (KDEP) responders indicated that there was documented evidence of oil spills in the vicinity of oil and gas production facilities.
On May 5, EPA Region 4 deployed an On-Scene Coordinator and a START member at the KDEP offices in Frankfort, KY for purposes of gathering information on environmental impacts. As of May 14, KDEP has etermined that a Mission Assignment from FEMA is not warranted to assist the Commonwealth with mitigation and cleanup of oil and hazardous substance releases.
EPA and the START member demobilized the incident on May 14, 2010.
