On Thursday, July 11, 2019, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) upgraded the depression in the Gulf of Mexico to Tropical Storm Barry, and on Saturday, July 13, the storm strengthened to a Category 1 Hurricane and made landfall on the southeastern Louisiana coast during the early hours of Saturday, July 13, 2019. The hurricane rapidly degraded to a tropical storm shortly after landfall.
Working together, EPA, the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, Louisiana Oil Spill Coordinator's Office, Louisiana Department of Health and the United States Coast Guard continue to coordinate with local, state, and federal officials for post-landfall storm related activities. EPA has response managers at both the Federal Emergency Management Agency in Denton, Texas, and State Emergency Operation Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. EPA Regional Operation Center in Dallas has also been activated.
