On April 12, 2012 the EPA, CT DEEP and USCG responded to a release of Gallium Trichloride from 5 N Plus Inc at 515 Commerce Drive in Fairfield CT, in the USCG zone. The release from a manufacturing facility and was initiated when a reaction overpressurized a pressure vessel. 35 facility workers were evacuated and workers from two nearby buildings were reported evacuated as well. Though initial reports were that the reaction was dissipating and the situation was stable; per coordination with the USCG, and CTDEEP, EPA assistance was requested for air monitoinrg and on site support and consultation.
EPA deployed 2 OSSCs, four START members and chorine and hydrochloric acid monitirng equipment.
