AMACOR (Advanced Magnesium Alloy Corporation) is a magnesuium recycling facility located at 1820 E 32nd Street, Anderson, Madison County Indiana. On January 14, 2005 a fire started at the AMACOR facility which continued to burn for approximately 48 hours. The fire and smoke acted as a propellant for encapsulated asbestos insulation located atop a rubber membrane roofing material used in the facility buildings. The dispersal of the asbestos containing material (ACM) affected approximately 1,300 residential properties, within a radius of approximately 2 miles from the AMACOR facility in a south to southwest direction.
