A property owner called in to the EPA Hotline and reported unknown drums found on his property on 09/03/10 from former operations. The former operator of the yard responded and excavated the drums and took confirmation samples. The property owner later informed the EPA of NORM (Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material) on-site related to the drums and former operations. The former operator called the incident in to the NRC (National Response Center) on 09/20/10 and was given report number 954605.
EPA FOSC Adams and START contractor met with the property owner and former operator to assess the situation on 09/16/10. During the site walk, the former operator informed OSC Adams that the NORM had been removed earlier that morning, and that excavation confirmation sample results would be forthcoming.
The PRP informed the property owner and the EPA that the remediation, disposal, and restoration would be completed as soon as possible.
