The U. S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 7 initated a removal action in St. Francois County, Missouri. In 2010, the action focused on lead-contaminated soils at local schools and child day care facilities.

In April 2014, the EPA began excavations on residential properties that exceed lead levels of 800 mg/kg and where children less than 84 months reside.
