On May 16, 2012, B&R Custom Chrome in Toledo, OH burned down in Toledo, Ohio. EPA responded on May 17, 2012 and mobilized the ERRS Contractor to secure the site. On May 18, 2012, a fence was installed to keep people out of the site until the waste could be removed. The owners of the plating/polishing shop (H&A Realty) are deceased and, according to the Lucas County Recorder, the shop is in forclosure due to non payment of property taxes. EPA will continue to work on obtaining a site access agreement to make entry to the building to sample the visible tanks and totes.
From May 2012-September 2013, EPA worked with EPA-ORC and DOJ to obtain access to the site.
On September 23, 2013, a judge signed the Administrative Warrant giving EPA access to conduct the Removal Action.
On November 5, 2013, EPA mobilized to begin the removal action.
