On April 2, 2012, the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (VDEQ) requested EPA assistance to investigate the Site of a potenital environmental crime. VDEQ had received a complaint that caustic substances were being intentonally released from the facility. VDEQ also requested assistance from Virginia Department of Labor, and City of Richmond Fire, Police, and Code Enforcement officials.

The facility cleans commercials exhaust systems using a caustic cleaning compound.
