On January 9, 2014, EPA responded to a release of cyclohexane and diethyl ether at the Kraton Polymers facility in Belpre, Ohio, NRC report number 1516046. The company reported the material made it through the NPDES outfall and into an on-site pond, then to Davis Creek which is a tributary to the Ohio River. OEPA is on scene and is requesting USEPA assistance. Dept of Interior, Ohio DNR and West Virgina DNR has been contacted due to a fish kill and stressed fish. Booms have been deployed by company personnel to aid in recovery of the cyclohexane, which is freezing and floating in the on-site pond. No impact has been reported to the local community via an air release and there is no press coverage at this time.
