On Tuesday November 17th a fire of unknown origin began at the Border Recycling Center located at 2343 W. FM 2369 in Uvalde, TX. The recyclable materials were housed in an approximately 180,000 sq. foot building which has been completely consumed by the fire. Originally, the Uvalde FD had made the decision to let the contained fire burn out on its own with monitoring; however, the decision was later made to actively suppress the larger flare ups.
NRC Report #706256 was filed by a nearby resident who was concerned about potential hazardous substances within the smoke plume. TCEQ has been onsite since the fire began and after consulting with the State, a decision was made to dispatch the R1 OSC Adams and START Contractors to assist the TCEQ with air monitoring operations and hazard assessment.
