On April 19, 2016, EPA Region 6 received NRC report 1145677, of a crude oil spill from Breitburn Operating. The 25 Bbls discharged from their tank battery due to equipment failure and corrosion on a tank vent line. Approximately, 10 Bbls reached Turkey Creek and initially impacted 1 mile of creek. The RP responded and initiated clean-up. On April 20, 2016 heavy rains breached the underflow dam and allowed the oil to impact 3.5 miles of creek, flowing through Kilgore TX. EPA R6 has dispatched the START contractors to assess the oil spill.
