OPA Fund response related to a release of 20 barrels of crude oil from an abandoned oil well. Crude oil materials were released onto the soil and into nearby water courses which ultimately discharge into the Big Muddy River just downstream from Rend Lake near Benton, Illinois.

Crude oil recovery operations were initiated on April 4, 2009. OSC, Turner, ERRS and START are on-scene.

Preparations are being made for a rain events over the next several days (April 4th and 5th, 2009).
