On January 21, 2017 at approximately 0900 EST, the Buckeye Terminals facility in Romulus, Michigan contacted the National Response Center (NRC Report # 1169121) regarding a 1,000 gallon release of Jet-A Fuel from an aboveground line between a tank and pumps that push fuel to a pipeline. The release escaped secondary containment, however, was contained in a drainage "swale" which has to be manually released by opening a valve. No sheen has been seen on the nearby waterway (Sloss and Ganong Drain, which is a tributary to the Ecorse River), but it is continuously being monitored. The RP is mobilizing an Oil Spill Response Organization (OSRO) contactor to begin vacuuming the excavations and placing of containment boom, if needed. OSC Wolfe is mobilizing to assess the threat of release to a waterway and oversee the Responsible Party (RP) clean-up. The Oil Pollution Act (OPA) fund has been opened to fund the project (Federal Project Number: E17506).
