This site is a closed pharmaceutical plant, formerly producing antibiotics. The materials in the plant vessels and tanks at the time of closure are still there. Hydrochloric acid, acetone, alcohol water mixtures, triethylamine, and other liquids are stored in some of the twenty tanks onsite. Over one hundred drums of acids, bases, solvents, and alcohols are stored in the building. The owner is working to remove these materials from the plant. Hydrochloric acid in tank 110, triethylamine in tank 111, and three dumpsters of off spec antibiotics have been removed from the site for proper disposal. The laboratory and maintenance shop at the facility were cleaned up by the responsible party. Additional wastes are scheduled to go out in the next few weeks. The Maryland Department of the Environment requested EPA assistance with the assessment of this site. Site cleanup has been completed, but the final certification from the responsible party is needed for closeout of the order.
