At 1600 hrs on 08OCT03, the Culp Petroleum Co. had a tankfarm fire caused by someone driving into the loading rack area. The person may have sufferred a medical condition. Six Fire Departments responded including the Charlotte Airport Fire Department. The Charlotte Airport Fire Department brought a foam fire truck and put out the flames. Oil and water runoff was contained to the site and did not impact a body of water. An initial estimate indicates that more than 49,000 gallons of gasoline/diesel/oil product was released.
