An EPA OSC and START contractors have been dispatched to the DOW Chemical facility in St. Tammany Parish Louisiana. After odor complaints from several citizens this morning, the EPA coordinated with LDEQ and LSP officials. The State had determined that a tank at the DOW facility had released a vapor of ethyl acrylate. While the tank only contained a residual amount of ethyl acrylate and no liquid was released, the odor threshold is so low (.001 ppm) that reports of the chemical were received from as many as four parishes.
