Site is an abandoned high school that included a chemistry lab. Detroit Fire Department contacted EPA regarding the hazardous chemicals at the site in 2014. Site ownership at the time could not be determined, therefore, initial EPA actions were to board up the site to limit access. Detroit Fire Department later officially referred the site to EPA for removal action after trespassers started a fire inside the building raising concerns of potential danger to the community should the entire building catch fire with hazardous chemicals inside.. EPA conducted a subsequent assessment of the remaining hazardous chemicals and returned to the site on July 14, 2015 to initiate a removal action.
