Incident No. 031230-1055-RDS
Jefferson County
DeSoto, MO

EER was notified by the Missouri Highway Patrol on 12/30/03 at 1055 hrs. that an accident involving a dump truck and a passenger van had occurred at the intersection of Hwy. 21 and Rte. Y near DeSoto. Approximately 25-30 gallons of diesel fuel and motor oil had spilled into a dry roadside ditch and had been contained by a small earthen dam.   The spill potentially threatened an unnamed tributary approximately 350 yds. downgradient. The truck driver was taken to a nearby hospital for examination and could not be immediately contacted. A request was made to MoDOT to apply sand to adsorb the petroleum until proper disposal could be accomplished. Efforts
are currently underway to contact the owner to secure the services of an environmental response service to remove the contamination and repair the ditch.

Matt Ojile, Rte. 66/EER, was mobilized to the scene to provide on-site information and to offer technical assistance.
