Approximately 100 bbl crude oil spill from 6 inch steel pipeline into an unnamed spring -fed tributary of Deer Creek approximately 2.5 miles SE of Yale, Payne County, Oklahoma. The leak was believed casued by internal corrosion. The compromised pipeline was reportedly off-line at the time fo the leak and therefore unpressurized. The age of the pipeline is estimated at 50 years old. The pipeline carries crude oil approximately 37 miles from production tanks in Pawnee to Cushing.
Blue Knight Energy Partners Crude LLC (BKEP) is the PRP. Initial NRC Report (980658) was unknown source and amount discharged reported by Sunoco, who had been notified by a landowner of the spill in the creek. A second NRC Report (980702) filed by BKEP had source and estimated amount discharged.
Oil in the creek is being removed by vacuum trucks stationed at three points along the creek dwonstream of pipeline spill. An underflow dam and hard boom are in place at distal end of the spill to restrict oil moving further downstream into Deer Creek. Weather forecasts show mostly rain-free conditions for the next 5-7 days. BKEP representatives are estimating approximately 5-7 days to clean the spill.
Deer Creek is a tributary of the Cimmaron River, which flows into the Arkansas River, which then flows into the Mississippi River.
