On July 26, 2010, Enbridge pipeline noticed a pressure drop in their pipeline after they tried to restart the line after a scheduled shut down. The line was immediately shut down and the valves upstream and downstream of the pressure drop (approximately 3 miles of 30 inch line).
Crude oil was discovered in Tallmadge Creek coming from a 48 inch culvert near the release point and the confluence to the Kalamazoo River was boomed off. Enbridge contacted their OSRO responder and reported the spill to the NRC at ~13:50.
U.S. EPA OSCs Jeff Kimble and Stephen Wolfe responded with START contractors.
