On February 24, 2016, EPA responded to a reported spill of 100 barrels of crude oil from an Enlink Midstream gathering terminal in Killbuck, Ohio. The release occurred from a pumping station at the facility.
Oil flowed over-ground into a ditch and in turn into the Killbuck Creek Wildlife area. Clean up contactors responded to collect oil with vacuum trucks and underflow dams. An approximate 3-acre area of wetland/marsh was impacted. Contractors deployed boom in the wetland to contain and collect oil.
OEPA retained the lead role for oversight with assistance from EPA, START, and Ohio DNR. All visible oil has been recovered and heavily stained vegetation has been removed from the marsh.
Enlink has developed a long-term, wetland remediation plan in coordination with OEPA and ODNR. OEPA has determined that no further invasive removal actions will occur in the marsh except for limited sampling outlined in the remediation plan. The marsh is expected to recovery to pre-spill conditions.
