On Tuesday August 10, 2010 FDEP requested EPA respond to an inactive chromated copper arsenate (CCA) wood treatment facility located within an economically challenged residential neighborhood in Jacksonville, FL. The facility operators have reportedly explored bankruptcy options and have ceased all operations at the facility within the last few weeks. R4 Legal have gained access through negotiations with the Trustee. OSC Jardine visited the site late on the 10th and determined that it was discharging potentially contaminated storm water off-site via storm drain. High potential for contaminated runoff exists if the site remains unmitigated as containment is full to capacity and the surface areas (e.g. drip pads) have not been decontaminated. The on-site lagoon is near capacity.
