Vermiculite Use Site located in Region 4.

EPA Region 4 is investigating a number of "libby" vermiculite use Sites. Region 4 determines the need for further evaluation based on Site visits and Site information.

The former Georgia Pacific (GP) Gypsum Brunswick Wallboard Plant is a location where "libby" vermiculite was used in the wallboard product process, located in Brunswick, Georgia. This closed Site is fenced with 24/7 security at the entrance. The Site was opened in 1959 and continued operation until 2009.

An EPA database compiled from W.R. Grace shipping invoices indicated that this facility was a WR Grace Licencee and industrial partner. The vermiculite, which was once purchased from WR Grace and shipped from Libby Montana, was used in the production of wallboard.

Based on information gathered and a removal site evaluation no further action by EPA is anticipated at this Site.
