The Halaco Engineering Company Superfund Site is the location of a former secondary metal smelter. It includes an 11-acre parcel containing the former smelter and an adjacent 26-acre area where wastes were deposited and managed.

Two of the former industrial buildings are marginally contaminated with heavy metals, low level alpha emitters, and a nominal amount of asbestos contaminated material in isolated areas. The buildings themselves are structurally unsound and in danger of collapsing. This removal action is to demolish the buildings to prevent an uncontrolled release of Site contaminants into surrounding areas, thereby preventing exposure to people and ecological receptors, and preventing physical harm to people on-site including workers conducting the remedial investigation or trespassers.
