At the request of the NYSDEC, OSC Lucarino conducted a site visit along with the NYSDEC on April 25, 2011 at the H,M. Quackenbush Site to determine the possibility of EPA involvement in an OPA funded removal action concerning the environmental impacts of a former leaking 10,000 gallon UST, which contained #6 oil, and was removed in 1995. After visiting the site and reviewing analytical results from a 2008 NYSDEC Site Characterization Report, it is apparent groundwater and subsurface soil has been impacted from the leaking tank, however, due to the highly viscous nature of the weathered #6 fuel oil, it is not expected to cause substantial harm to the environment and does not pose a threat of discharge to a navigable waterway. The closest navigable waterway is the Mohawk River, approximately 1.5 miles downgradient of the site.
