Betterway Products, a Composite Open Molding operation, has conducted operations on a property owned by Korprop, formerly owned and operated by Hoskins Manufacturing. The Hoskins New Paris facility has had documented spills in which IDEM (Indiana Department of Environmental Management) was overseeing the remediation process. When Hoskins went out of business, the remediation process ceased, and IDEM and Elkhart County Health department continued to monitor the contamination.

Elkhart County Health Department contacted US EPA with concerns on the site. Both the county health department and IDEM shared the concern of the possibility of the spread of contamination, and it effecting nearby residents. The unsecured facility of hazardous substances also raised concerns on the property.

Hoskins manufactured thermoelectric nickel and chromium alloys in the form of wire, strip and ribbon. Hoskins Manufacturing also had three other plant locations in Mio, Charlevoix, Michigan and Hamburg, Michigan. EPA removal activities are complete at the other Michigan locations.
