On November 28, 2018 the EPA's Region II Emergency Operations Center (REOC) received an email about a fire at the JJW Metal Corp, a metal recycling facility, located in Carolina Puerto Rico. At approximately 1330 in the afternoon, facility personnel were using a metal grabber on a portion of the site and caused an explosion. An EPA OSC was deployed to provide technical support to the State by conducting perimeter air monitoring, air, soil and air sampling.
