On June 22, 2026, at approximately 5:30 pm, EPA was notified of a tire fire at the Mammoth Metals Recycling  facility in southeast Houston, Texas, just south of Brays Bayou. There was no report made to the National Response Center (NRC).

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) reported that Houston Fire and Hazmat, Harris County Pollution Control Services (HCPCS) and Houston Public Health quickly responded to the event. They conducted continuous on-scene air monitoring and reported no significant detections, and no evacuation order was necessary for the nearby residential area.

EPA deployed to the incident and confirmed there are no impacts to Bray’s Bayou and no offsite air monitoring detections. EPA also confirmed that no aqueous fire-fighting foam (AFFF) was used while fighting the fire.

Firefighting activities at the site are still on-going, and EPA will continue to make updates as necessary.
