Conoco Phillips Alaska, Inc. Discovered a spill at their 2M CRUDE OIL production pad in the Kuparuk oil field located on the North Slope of Alaska approximately 40 miles west of Deadhorse Alaska on May 12, 2004. The company reported the spill initially estimated that 840 gallons of a produced water/crude oil mixture was released to both a gravel pad and to surrounding tundra from a failed gauge on a 12 inch well flowline. The amount was upgraded on May 13 after a substainal amount of snow was removed, to 2,545 gallons of produce water / crude oil mix of which 30 % is estimated to be crude oil. The total impacted area is 3,707 square feet of which 3,382 sq.ft. with an estmiated amount of 2,486 gals impacted the tundra adjacent to the production pad. Alaska Clean Seas (ACS) a spill response cooperative is currently on site with Conoco Phillips spill response team conducting the clean-up. A representative from the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation is on site monitoiring the response.
